Abstract
The article presents the methodology and some significant results of an empirical sociological study of fairness in Russian society and the state, which was carried out in 2019. These results, first of all, relate to the understanding of fairness and unfairness by Russian citizens, to their practice of justification and advocacy of fairness, as well as to their expectations of fairness from the state. Russian citizens want fairness from the state, but at the level of rational arguments they understand that the state could not to provide it.
