Abstract
Public has fallen under the impression that there is a special national elite model in France. The scientific literature characterize this model by having of the privileged “big school’s” diploma by the elite members, a high degree of homogeneity of elite community, the closeness of elites, and their belonging to the higher strata of society. The author verifies the relevance of existing claims and studies out whether there is still France’s national model of elite in the beginning of the XXI century. The composition of the French political elite, both formal and informal features of belonging to the elite strata are under the investigation in the article. The research is based on interviews with French politicians and experts that were conducted by the author in France (20122014). It is shown that the main formal features of the French political elite are big pool of recruitment and broad social base, training in exclusive educational institutions, local/party rootedness, and endurance in the elite status, ties between politics, policy and public service, loyalty to the Republican Pact, respect for the French culture. There are the knowledge of elite codes, language skills, the ability to create closed social networks and accumulate social capital among the informal attributes of belonging to the elite.
